I’m moving to LA September 1st. Exciiiting.

I got to submit an audition tape to Saturday Night Live. I didn’t get an audition, obviously, and I wasn’t going to show anybody this, but I did buy a Barbie doll and like $100 worth of wigs and my family thinks its funny. I guess I was just afraid people would steal my jokes or think I was lame. And I don’t want to be lame.

We are making an EP

The Fritzl Babies will have an EP out late spring featuring seven songs, each one jam-packed with my off beat pan pounding and filled with allusions to dungeons, gods, and epic fights to the death.

So Johnny Skydiver was received warmly, but almost everybody said “It was so short!” Uuuggh I knooooooow!!! But…… I picked the song because it was short and because I notoriously run out of time to finish my animations and I wanted to finish SOMETHING for once.

There weren’t many people there that could make use of my demo, but I’m glad I made it. When I got back I made about three dozen more copies and I have no idea what I am planning on doing with all of them. Sometimes I think I want to design DVD menus… I have a lot of fun making them and they’re a great way to top off the long hard road of making something for viewing consumption. (Like the SKINNY DIP DVD menu I made, which loops absolutely seemlessly for eternity might I add)

Finally, I have to catch up with three days of school work which is surprisingly a shit-ton of school work. Plan II Physics is seriously eating me for lunch and I’m tired of being its meal. I just put out a casting call for my 16mm 1-3 minute short. I’m sort of not looking forward to it because I feel like I won’t have time to make it good.

My thesis ideas are coming along well. I’ve actually started doing research, which I guess means I am excited about it, which I guess means I might do a good job on it. Could it be?

The best summer ever.

If you haven’t heard, it’s been raining in New York since I got here May 30th. This morning, I woke up, and thought, “God, it’s hot,” in a lovingingly annoyed sort of way, like when you’re pissed you’re having your period but glad that you’re not pregnant. The sun shone quite brightly into my bedroom window, and continued, gasp, all day today, and I actually pondered going to the visit a beach this weekend and wondered if I could start wearing shorts again without worrying about dirty looks or subway gropers.

Then it started pouring at 5PM. Lovely.

But I can’t necessarily complain what with Austin in a horrible 100 degree heat wave and what with me with no AC in a moderatate 70 degree, ideal, albeit wet, environment.

I set up my room kind a sort of to start sewing.

What’s that? You want to take a closer look at my super awesome 1980s Bernina sewing machine from the future?

The past two days I have been wasting lots and lots of fabric trying to come up with a really nice razor back shirt pattern. Turns out, it’s kind of hard. (I made 8 before coming up with a design I like that fit well) Here’s an almost okay prototype for something I’ve been trying to make… this is more form fitted than I want it to be, and the sewing is wonky.

I know what you’re saying, and you’re right, the neon green. Shhhh. I know. Shhh. Trust me on this, ok? Or at least let me be until I come to my senses.

Over the past week I’ve been preparing things to send out to people in Texas. Mostly, I’ve been making postcards out of pictures I’ve had developed in New York by spray adhesiving thick resume paper on the back of each picture so I can write a message and the picture will be sturdier going through the mail. Luckily, no one is reading this blog and these letters will be a relative surprise to most.

The first round of messages are going out tomorrow.

Hi. My name is Noël.
I have been contributing to the online world since I was 12 years old, but back in “the day” animated gifs and crappy web layouts and lolling weren’t ironic, and I contributed to all of them with sincerity. But pressured by the quickly evolving necessity to establish an online identity– a fancy, saavy, beautiful and charming persona who can laugh appreciatively at the quaintness of what the internet looked like 10 years ago– I realized I need to get my shit together and take my stake in the NEW World Wide Web. How will I do this? I don’t know.
