So Johnny Skydiver was received warmly, but almost everybody said “It was so short!” Uuuggh I knooooooow!!! But…… I picked the song because it was short and because I notoriously run out of time to finish my animations and I wanted to finish SOMETHING for once.
There weren’t many people there that could make use of my demo, but I’m glad I made it. When I got back I made about three dozen more copies and I have no idea what I am planning on doing with all of them. Sometimes I think I want to design DVD menus… I have a lot of fun making them and they’re a great way to top off the long hard road of making something for viewing consumption. (Like the SKINNY DIP DVD menu I made, which loops absolutely seemlessly for eternity might I add)
Here’s what the DVDs look like:
And here’s the DVD menu homepage. It’s super simple but I like it.
If you want one, please, I’ll give you one. Just e-mail me at noelwells at that gmail website. I like sending mail.
Here are a few of my favorite pictures from LA:
Finally, I have to catch up with three days of school work which is surprisingly a shit-ton of school work. Plan II Physics is seriously eating me for lunch and I’m tired of being its meal. I just put out a casting call for my 16mm 1-3 minute short. I’m sort of not looking forward to it because I feel like I won’t have time to make it good.
My thesis ideas are coming along well. I’ve actually started doing research, which I guess means I am excited about it, which I guess means I might do a good job on it. Could it be?

I can’t believe I finally did it. I made this reel along with a demo DVD that I think reeks of me in what I hope is in a good way. I don’t have a picture of the DVD, but a screengrab would be worthwhile to prove the case. I scrambled this all together for the UT Hollywood Showcase, just in case there is any schmoozing to be had. I collected about 15 things that I did to make this reel, but when I watch it, it doesn’t seem like there’s much there at all. Maybe that’s the point.

Favorite Photos from Week 2 Roll 1. I started stalking people in New York City. I usually ended up taking pictures of them from behind because I’m not ballsy. I like little old ladies. Locations include the Upper West Side, Midtown, and Brighton Beach (and the rain that caused an exodus at the station.)
I had 36 rolls of film from my trip that I couldn’t afford to develop, and they’re all jumbled up. I am developing five or so rolls every Friday and then posting my favorites from one roll each day of the week, along with any interesting details.
Tomorrow will be CD 1 Week 1. Pictures from all six rolls include NYC, Wisconsin, Chicago, and Austin arrival. Some of my favorites already on flickr.
Week one down, 6 more to go.
In other news, my music video animation for the band Watch out for Rockets was selected to be apart of the UT Hollywood Showcase, so I’ll be heading back to Los Angeles September 23-25.
I’m also made/making the website for a charming and funny Austin independent film Harmony and Me. Sophie T. is doing a lot of stuff for the film along with director Bob Byington and she got me on board, so we’ll be working together to promote it in various ways (Looks like my IFC internship is already coming in handy.)
Check out the trailer, or better yet, it’s screening at the Museum of Modern Art starting September 18th. Ooh la la!
Polaroids I took upon my return to Austin August 18th, 9AM local time. The clouds were really tall, puffy, white, and I think the pilot said local temperatures were 75 degrees.
